Where do I belong? The Career Experience of Higher Education Professional Staff
Associate Professor Michelle Gander, Murdoch University
Associate Professor Gander will outline her seminal research on staff within the Professional track of higher education. Her work has applied sociological approach to capture insights as it relates to career management within the unique attributes of academic institutions - their structures and power relationships. The presentation will highlight key themes and learning through the lens of social theories, opening the door for the audience to contemplate what it means for the national research infrastructure workforce, especially those on the Professional track of home institutions.

Associate Professor Michelle Gander started her career as a professional staff member at the Open University in the UK before migrating to Australia to complete her PhD. Once her scholarship ran out, she once again moved back into professional services whilst completing her thesis, before moving into an academic leadership and A/Prof role. Her research is primarily focussed on the careers of university professional staff, and she has published extensively in this area.
